I am very pleased to announce the release of glFusion v1.6.1. This release continues to build upon the great enhancements and capabilities of glFusion v1.6. Primarily, this release fixes some issues and bugs, but it also brings some new features that are aimed at improving the overall user experience. Again, we had some great collaboration and feedback from the glFusion community which has helped shape and fine tune this release.
Let's review some of the more significant enhancements:
Email communications from your glFusion powered site are an extension of your online personality. To ensure we always put forth the best view, we have enhanced all the outbound email templates to take advantage of a responsive design and improved layout and compatibility across a larger set of email clients. Much better polish!
We no longer rely on using an external program to backup the glFusion database. In many cases, it proved to be difficult to locate the required external program on shared hosting plans, which became a barrier to folks making routine backups of their site. We have now integrated the great work from Lee Garner's lgLib plugin to have a fully standalone backup solution. We've also jazzed it up a bit with an interactive progress bar so you can see the progress as the backup complete. We've also enhanced the optimization and conversion to / from InnoDB and MyISAM engines.
More Social Integration
We've improved the Open Graph support to support improved sharing of your content via social media. We've also implemented Twitter Cards support. With Twitter Cards, you can attach rich photos to Tweets that drive traffic to your website. When users Tweet links to your content, they will have a “Card” added to the Tweet that’s visible to all of their followers. If you tweet a story with a story image, the story image will automatically be used for the card. If you tweet an image from Media Gallery, that image will be used for the card.
For sites that like to re-publish or aggregate articles from other sites, you can now provide attribution to the original author and site. This will replace the local user name in the Contributed by heading with the original author's name. If a link back to the source web site is provided, glFusion will add a Source button with the link.
Improved Security Token Handling
glFusion uses tokens to validate that submitted content originates on the glFusion powered site. This has proven to be a very effective method to combat spam and bot attacks. A drawback to this useful feature is that security tokens are only valid for a very short period of time, generally 20 minutes. In many cases, it may take you longer than 20 minutes to author an article, static page, or forum post. When the security token expires, you have to re-authenticate and in some cases your work is lost. No more! With glFusion v1.6.1 we've implemented features that will keep the security tokens 'fresh' while you are working. If you step away or are idle for 15 minutes, you will be prompted to refresh the session. This will prevent token timeouts and makes for a much better overall experience when authoring content.
Polls can now be voted on directly in a story without having to navigate away.

HTML in Menu Labels and Block Titles
You can now include HTML in menu labels and block titles - one really cool capability this brings is the ability to use UIKIT's FontAwesome graphics in your menus and titles. For a full list of of available icons, please the Icon List in the glFusion Wiki.
There are some of the great new features we've included in glFusion v1.6.1. We've also made several small tweaks here and there to improve things as well. We've optimized all of the images and graphics included in glFusion, this will give you faster page loads as well as a smaller amount of data to upload to your web site! We've continued to improve HTML 5 playback capabilities in Media Gallery - now we handle all MP3 media playback using HTML 5 components. Informational messages in glFusion are now handled via a transient modal box - so they show up and then disappear after a few seconds. Of course you can set the timeout if you don't like the default. Finally, we' ve implemented the ability to search the configuration section to find settings that might be hidden behind all those configuration menus.
For a full list of enhacements and fixes - please see the glFusion v1.6.1 ChangeLog for all the details.
We've also fixed a few things along the way as well. We've received several bug reports and have addressed all outstanding issues with this release. Again, I appreciate the feedback and detailed information to help us continue to improve glFusion.
We really enjoy hearing from our users and we welcome everyone to get involved with glFusion, please check out the Getting Involved section of the wiki for information on how you can get more involved with the glFusion community and development.
