Site Down After Editing Block

Hello guys, I need some help please. I have a website at http://www.whedonopolis.com/, and this morning I was editing one of the blocks with some Amazon HTML code. When I hit the "save" button, the site crashed somehow, and now I get the following error rather than the site itself:

"There has been an error in building this page. Please try again later."

Any idea what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

The first thing I'd try is to disable the block, since that's the last change that was made. You can do it with a SQL statement like this:

UPDATE gl_blocks SET is_enabled=0 WHERE name='block_name';

Just substitute your actual block name for "block_name". If you have phpMyAdmin you can use that to edit the record also.

K I changed the "is_enabled" attribute in PHPMyAdmin for that block from 1 to 0 and the site still won't load. They recently switched servers on us and the site went down then too, but they were able to fix it as explained here:

-I enabled debugging and see that the filer(.miss) was still in the path
referenced.

Server Paths:
Please make sure you don't have anything like "/home/.SOMETHING/username"
or
/mnt/local/home/username as the path in any of your sites' scripts.
Instead, it
should just be "/home/username". If your site brings up an error now with
something
between /home/ and /username/ in the error message (or starting with
/mnt/local/),
then the path in one of your configuration files is incorrect and will
need to be updated.

I see that you updated the siteconfig.php file.

I grep'd your web directory and updated the path in the following files:

/whedonopolis.com/incon/data/$$$config$$$.cache
/whedonopolis.com/incon/data/layout_cache/$$$config$$$.cache

Your site is up and error free now.

I left $_SYSTEM['rootdebug'] = true; in the file in case you run into any
other issue.

You can set it to false or delete it completely if you like.

I've done a full site restore and the site is still down.

Anything else I could try?

K, I've deleted the block I was editing entirely from the SQL database after trying to remove the HTML code within, and still the site is broken. So confused.

Well, typically that error indicates a severe PHP error, like the inability to include a needed file, for instance. You might need to look in your web server's error log, if you have access to it.

I can't seem to find that anywhere, but I've asked Dreamhost to either tell me where I can see it or supply me with it. Thanks!

Let's turn on debugging and see what shows up. Edit siteconfig.php and set $_SYSTEM['rootdebug'] = true; this should give some improved error messages. Also, check the error.log file and see if there is anything there to give a clue.

Most of those are just file-not-found errors, no problem. Your root debug looks like the Bad Behavior files are missing. Your path_html seems to be set correctly. Try disabling the Bad Behavior plugin using fusionrescue.php. You might need to reame your "install" directory if you previously removed or renamed it as you're supposed to. The url is http://yoursite/admin/install/fusionrescue.php. You can disable the plugin and see if that fixes the problem.

K, I ran the http://www.whedonopolis.com/admin/insta ... rescue.php program, went to the plugin admin and turned off bad behavior, and the site still seems broken.

Any thoughts on what to try next? Sorry for all the questions, I'm not very PHP skilled.

OK, I didn't notice this the first time. Your path_html isn't set right, after all.

Your actual document root, according to the $_SERVER variable, is /home/whedonopolis/whedonopolis.com. Your $_CONF['path_html'] is set to /home/.miss/whedonopolis/whedonopolis.com. Unless there's some odd symlinking going on, that explains why your files aren't being found. Try using fusionrescue.php again to set the path_html to match your document root and that ought to do it.
